Effective Dry Cracked Heels Treatment

What Are Cracked Heels?
Cracked heels are often referred to as fissures and are usually caused by dry skin.
When the fissures are deep the skin bleeds easily and can be extremely painful.
This can also lead to infection which is especially serious for anyone with a chronic disease such as diabetes.
Symptoms of Cracked Heels
The most common symptoms of cracked heels include:
- The edges or rim around the heel will generally have a thicker area of skin (callus)
- Peeling and cracked skin
- Pain while walking particularly in open back shoes or shoes with thin soles
- Red or flaky patches on the heel of the foot
- Itchy skin

Carron's Story "As a victim of short stature, I am an avid fan of 'killer heels' and strappy sandals. Unfortunately, I am also a victim of disgusting hard, cracked and at times, painful heels. So many times have I donned the perfect sandals, only to find these awful heels staring right back at me. "As a victim of short stature, I am an avid fan of "killer heels" and strappy sandals. Unfortunately, I am also a victim of disgusting hard, cracked and at times, painful heels. So many times have I donned the perfect sandals, only to find these awful heels staring right back at me. At my girlfriends for coffee, she started raving about this cream Nature's Gold. I showed her my heels and asked her if it would cure that. She smiled as she handed me a jar, knowing my absolute skepticism. Later that night I put it on my heels and thought nothing else about it. Two hours later, I checked them out - WOW! It was already going to work and the skin was already softer. I was totally shocked as I have never seen anything go to work so fast with such amazing results. Five days later after using the cream daily, my feet were looking and feeling fantastic. Thanks to Nature's Gold, I can now wear my latest strappy sandals knowing my heels won't spoil the look." What Causes Cracked Heels?
There are a number of factors that can contribute to cracked heels including:
- Prolonged standing especially on hard floor surfaces
- Wearing open backed shoes which allow the heel to expand sideways
- Some medical conditions such as eczema or diabetes can also be contributing factors
- Obesity - the excess weight puts increased pressure on the fat pad under the heel causing it to expand sideways
- Flat feet or high arched feet
- Athlete's foot (a form of fungus infection of the feet)
- Living in a dry climate
Relief and Prevention for Cracked Heels
The first step to improving the skin condition is to remove the hard growth of skin on the outer edge of the heel. Often the splits will not heal if this skin is not removed. A pumice stone or foot file works well and should be used regularly to prevent a recurrence of the problem.

Additional therapies include:
- Avoid going barefoot or wearing sandals, open backed or thin soled shoes.
- A heel cup may be worn in the shoe to prevent the fat pad from expanding sideways.
- Wear comfortable shoes with a good shock absorbing sole.
- Massage Nature's Gold Therapeutic Skin Cream into the dry, cracked areas of the feet each morning and night. Keep covered until healed then apply once daily to maintain healthy skin. The Manuka Honey will lubricate and soften the skin leaving it moist and supple.
- At night wear socks to help improve the absorption of the cream into the dry, cracked heels while sleeping
