Why don't you use petroleum in your products?
Petroleum based oils tend to block the skin's ability to “breathe” and can also leach the skin's natural oils. Because petroleum is very cheap compared to natural plant oils, it is commonly used in skin creams and lotions.
I can purchase skin care products much cheaper elsewhere. Why should I buy yours?
You're absolutely right! There is a myriad of products available out there in the marketplace with lower prices. However, make sure you check their ingredients list first as you'll be shocked to find they contain many unpronounceable chemicals which can be damaging to the skin. We strive to use only the most wholesome and natural botanical ingredients available and are not prepared to compromise our quality for price.
What are Botanical Ingredients?
A Botanical Ingredient is a component of a cosmetic or personal care product that originates from plants (herbs, roots, flowers, fruits, leaves or seeds). Specific ingredients derived from biological sources are classified based on their chemical structure and how they are isolated from plants.
Why are Botanical Ingredients used in cosmetic and personal care products?
Plant-derived ingredients were among the very first cosmetics. Natural colorants, plant juices for soothing and protection from insect pests and fragrant oils for imparting scent were all used in ancient times. Historically, plants were the only way to produce products for cleaning, moisturizing, covering up blemishes and even treating minor skin conditions.
Are Botanical Ingredients safe?
In considering the safety of Botanical Ingredients used in cosmetics and personal care products, it is important to consider the specific botanical material, the amount of the botanical in the raw material and finished product and the route of exposure. Most applications of Botanical Ingredients in cosmetics are topical, that is they are applied externally to the skin.
What are the benefits of having regular facials?
Clearer skin is a natural result of exfoliating on a regular basis. Combined with daily cleansing and moisturizing, your skin will feel much smoother, moister and look healthier.
How often should I exfoliate? And should I do it at night or in the morning?
We suggest once a week for people with a dry or sensitive skin and twice a week for those with an oilier complexion. It does not matter whether you exfoliate morning or night as long as you cleanse and tone first as exfoliating does not cleanse.
What causes my acne to flare up?
Acne outbreaks are caused by the four “trigger factors”: excess oil, pore-clogging dead skin cells, acne bacteria and inflammation. Hormones prompt your oil glands to produce excess oil, provoking the skin cells in your pores to rapidly shed. When the pore becomes clogged by trapped oil and dead skin cells it creates a perfect breeding ground for irritating acne bacteria. As your skin tries to deal with the bacteria, it becomes inflamed, eventually causing a full-blown breakout.
Do I need to use a separate eye cream to my daily moisturiser?
All Nature's Gold moisturizers are suitable for use around the eyes. However, the skin around the eye area is much thinner and contains no oil glands and therefore tends to dry and wrinkle more easily. The moisturiser should be applied with care, being careful never to stretch the skin, but carefully pat it onto the surface of the skin.
Are sunglasses beneficial for the skin around my eyes?
Yes, but only if the lenses have strong UV filters on them. Sunglasses help prevent squinting which contributes to crow's feet which is why wraparound lenses are the best. Be aware however, though UV lenses offer partial protection from damaging rays, they can't do the whole job so you'll still need to wear an SPF for the eye area.
My skin looks and feels terrible after flying. Any suggestions?
There are a number of things you can do to help jet lag for both your skin and your system: Avoid foundation makeup for the duration of the flight, drink plenty of water during the flight to combat dehydration, avoid alcohol, caffeinated beverages and sodas that all cause dehydration. Spray you face as needed with our Hydrating Toner to revitalise and freshen the skin.
What's the difference between a sensitive reaction and an allergic one?
A sensitive reaction only occurs on the area of application, is dose dependent (that is, substance amount has a direct relationship with the reaction), and manifests immediately. An allergic reaction, however, elicits a systemic response that may occur all over the body and can be triggered even by the smallest amount. An allergic reaction often has a delayed onset as well.
Does stress affect your skin?
Absolutely! Remember to take time for yourself. Stress can have physiological effects on the body, including stimulating a hormone, which can encourage the sebaceous glands to produce more oil, increasing the chances of breaking out. Stress can manifest itself in our skin even three months after we experience the stressor. It is important to do things daily that reduce stress such as relaxation activities, meditation, exercise and sleep.
Is diet and nutrition an important factor in the health of my skin?
Definitely! Overall proper nutrition is still an important tool for the health of your skin. It is important to drink lots of water and eat plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables and nutrient rich foods to maintain the health of your skin. Today's population is exposed to so much more environmental damage such as smog, stress, smoke, chemicals and other pollutants, it may be helpful to take additional supplements to provide your skin with the nutrients it needs to stay balanced and healthy.
Why do I still get a reaction from certain cosmetics even though they're advertised as ‘hypoallergenic'?
"Hypo" means "less" so though there may be fewer irritants, they're all not completely absent. Generally, the term "hypoallergenic" is beauty industry shorthand for "fragrance free", which is always a good idea for sensitive skin.
If I have sensitive skin, are products for dry skin suitable to use?
Yes, for non-extreme cases, they're interchangeable. Products for both skin types offer rich moisturisers and fortify the lipid barrier function.
`
Do I need to store my products in the refrigerator?
No, we don't suggest storing your products in the refrigerator but it is important to keep them below 30℃. If you live in a tropical climate where the temperature constantly goes above 30℃, then it will extend the shelf life of the product.
Do we test on animals?
Absolutely not! We do not test on animals nor do we ask anyone to conduct animal testing on our behalf. All the ingredients we use in our products are completely safe for humans and therefore tests are done on human volunteers only.
Do you ship to countries overseas?
Yes, we ship our products all over the world. They are sent by airmail and generally delivered within 10-14 days.
